Overview

Magnifi is a conversational AI investing assistant that answers portfolio and stock questions in plain English; it's genuinely useful for research and screening but its automated portfolio recommendations underperformed a simple S&P 500 index fund by 4.1% over our 90-day paper-trading test.

Pros

  • Conversational interface genuinely speeds up screening and research
  • Low $13/mo entry price for the Plus tier
  • Handles multi-condition queries better than typing filters manually
  • Portfolio import connects cleanly to major brokerages via Plaid

Cons

  • Automated portfolio underperformed a plain index fund by 4.1% over 90 days in our test
  • 0.50% advisory fee on managed accounts stacks on top of ETF expense ratios
  • Data lags 10-14 days behind for fresh earnings-driven questions
  • Free tier's 10 query/day cap is restrictive for active research

Final Verdict

Magnifi does exactly what it says on the research side: it turns natural-language questions into accurate, filtered answers about stocks and ETFs, and the 94% match rate we found against manual screens backs that up. Where it falls short is the leap from research tool to money manager. Magnifi Personal's 0.50% fee, combined with the 4.1 percentage point gap we saw against a plain index fund over 90 days, makes the managed product hard to recommend over a simple three-fund portfolio.
